Tall Tales of Sheffield Manor & Deer Park
Prepare to be lost in local tales from the past.
Tall stories have a habit of reappearing whenever people visit the Manor Lodge; tales of tunnels, ghosts, the mysterious hermit of Sheffield Park, the strange sickness of Cardinal Wolsey and the terrifying Spring Heeled Jack.
Come and hear some of the stories, told from our special throne in the storytelling room in the 1574 Turret House. The stories are recorded in a variety of ways using poetry, diary entries, letters and newspaper articles.
But what’s the truth in such folk tales? We look at authenticity and how such tales, myths and legends are handed down through the generations.
Children are then given ideas about writing their own tall tales based on their visit to the Manor Lodge.
